Meet the Artist: David Reid May 2009

 Meet the artist David Reid

David Reid is a South Australian artist who has a distinctive relationship with Shanghai, Chinese art and the Chinese tradition of ink on paper.

Over the last few years David has frequently travelled to Shanghai, these journeys have intensified the energy and beauty found within his art. They have also enabled him to develop his artistic reputation within the Shanghai art market.

He uses rice, bamboo and grass papers extensively and seeks to push boundaries with his application and interpretation of an art practice steeped in rich history.

Ink on paper is an inimitable Chinese art practice, so he is pleased that his works have been embraced by Chinese scholars and shown alongside some of the best practitioners of the medium.

David has been invited by emerging gallery Kun-Art to exhibit in Shanghai’s prestigious Morganshan Lu gallery district.

Kun-Art Gallery exhibits both Chinese and International artists and has a strong reputation for presenting exciting new works and artists to the sophisticated and knowledgeable Shanghai audience.

Join us and David for an informal meeting at the Gallery on Saturday May 16th from 1pm- 4pm.  This is a rare opportunity to hear him speak about his art, as well as see his special collection of recent works in their studio state. He will explain more about how and why he made this collection, and he will also give a short demonstration.

We hope you can make it.
